In the Summarize My Area Tool, select a national indicator from the dropdown:

Select the unit area from the dropdown:

Select, Create, or Upload the focus location interactively in the map:

When selecting a national indicator, the choices are for the National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD) as "Land Cover" or as "Land Cover Change". For the "Land Cover" indicator, choices for NLCD Layer Years are presented in the boxes below this selection. The example below demonstrates when "Land Cover Change" is selected as the national indicator from the dropdown. In this example, 2001 is selected as the Time Point 1 and 2019 is selected as TimePoint 2 for displaying the results. HUC-8 is selected as the unit area, and HUC-8 boundaries are displayed in the map.

In the map, click a HUC-8 to designate the focus location to analyze. The EnviroAtlas map zooms to the extent of the area and highlights the boundary with a thicker black line. In this case the HUC-8 containing Salinas, California was selected. The Calculate button becomes active.

Click Calculate. The Summarize My Area Tool extracts the appropriate statistics for the selected area (in this example, HUC-8 for Salinas, CA). If Land Cover is selected Area and Percentage for each NLCD Land Cover Type displays in the results. If Land Cover Change is selected, the change in area for each NLCD Land Cover Type is displayed. Statistics appear in a table in the Tool's Results tab. Scroll through or resize the Summarize My Area Tool window to view values in the table. Both result tables are shown below.
